after renewing the Security Certificate in IPO some phones may hold onto their old certificate. Normally this only happens with the J-series phones. Just click cancel (bottom right button below the screen) and the normal screen will reappear.
Unfortunately, when this happens without a software upgrade, you will need to login to the phone and factory reset it. This forces the phone to accept the new certificate. Use these steps to complete.
1. Note down the extension number.
2. Access the internal maintenance menu by restarting the phone by removing and reinserting the topmost Ethernet cable. The phone will restart and eventually show:
Press the * key and you will be prompted for the maintenance password. Enter: 27238 then press the # key.
The screen will show the main menu. Use the down arrow key to highlight and select CLEAR.
Then Start at the bottom to proceed.
Then press Clear to confirm.
The phone will reset all settings and connect to the phone system and check for updates. It will download any new handset software as well as the new certificate.
Once this completes, login with the extension number. The normal screen setup will reappear.
NOTE:
Sometimes you will get repeated restarts when its either a brand-new phone or a phone that hasn’t been connected to the network before or, for a phone that’s been ‘factory reset’.
When the phone first connects, the network switch should pick up the LLDP request and auto-forward it to the phone system to respond. Give it a couple of minutes and see if it picks up the VLAN correctly. If it doesn’t, it’s likely the LLDP is not configured or mis-configured on the switch(es).
If no connection after a few minutes, you may need to manually set the VLAN ID and ‘possibly’ the gateway IP which will bypass waiting for the switch to pass through the request.
